Earth News
Once again we had an Earth Show on April 22, Earth Day. This year happened to be the 40th Anniversary of the Earth Day. We have certainly come a long way since then but seem to have a way to go yet. Every day should be Earth Day. We all need to find ways to lower our carbon footprints.
We just got back from a Global Sustainability Symposium at Central Connecticut State University. It is truly amazing how a grass roots movement can take hold. One of the presenters, ACE (Alliance for Climate Education) has a fun challenge for all to join. She challenged everyone in the room to "Do One Thing". That is your "DOT". Go onto http://www.acespace.org/ or facebook.com/acespace@climateed and post your "DOT" You can also share your "DOT" by texting DOT to 30644. (standard rates apply). This is a movement that is spreading over the entire United States. The idea is that we can follow the progress and see the DOTS coalesce into a solid form and we can change the energy paradigm in this country where the average teenager has an carbon footprint of 12 football fields. Go to http://www.ctenergyeducation.com/ to do your personal carbon footprint.
We were shown data that tell us that since the first Earth Day, our average temperature has gone up 1.5 degrees. The last ten years have been the hottest since they kept records. Whether one believes in "Global Climate Change" or not, can we afford to take a chance and do nothing? Or is it wise to hedge our bets and conserve, reduce our carbon footprint and live more energy efficiently and possibly more Healthfully? Not a bad way to proceed for our Children and their children.
Planting season is in full swing and along with flowers and vegetables, don't forget to plant trees. They provide shade, shelter and habitat and gobble up carbon dioxide for a cleaner, healthier air quality.
Once again we are planting our vegetables at the Fodor Farm Community Garden on Flax Hill Road. Anyone interested in being an Urban Farmer, see Mrs Verel in D House, email: verelm@norwalkps.org. All invited to participate especially during the summer and enjoy the harvest with us.
Thank you again for the great outpouring of help with the Soles for Souls Campaign. With the indispensable help of the Italian Club led by Mrs Lopreiato, we collected 70 pairs of shoes for Haiti One more suggestion: Have fun with UTUBE video: " Wombat: All is One." Enjoy
This year, kick it up a notch and go GREENER!
